SWITCH-WHERE AM I
It’s no secret switch has been putting in work and delivering project after project. This is extremely impressive. Bar for Bar, Album for Album, Video for Video Switch remains consistent with dropping music and visuals for all of his projects. “Where Am I” is a unique project with a variety of sounds and on each track, making the overall album a fluid, creative piece. The Flow of the project is interesting, there are calmer hip-hop boom-bap sounds along with new-school songs that bump. On this project switch proves his growth, maturity and his continuous development and self-improvement of an artist. Overall really enjoyed the project and the Delivery on some of the tracks is crazy!
This project kicks off with “It’s a Trap” with a different lo-fi sound, which was exciting to hear from Switch. Switch has been making some hard-hitting music including [[new-school (boom-bap]] and it is dope to hear himself on a different style right off the bat to engage the audience. It’s obvious that switch has lyricism and knowledge in his bars. Whether it is universal knowledge, or society concerns and his life itself. He is also known for his chorus blends with Ad-libs to create a motion w/ sonics then slingshot launch you into the verses.
— This blend is shown on Track Two “I Forgot”, a very interesting take on this track. If you have been following Switch and his music you would know he has had a history with substance abuse and recovery. This track is interesting, our take— it shows Switch tempting the audience back into his past, with drug abuse, “Coming off the Codeine, took a luke-warm bath… I forgot” .. “Coming down off the cocaine, take a real warm bath” Is this switch forgetting about his past history w/ drugs? does luke-warm vs. real warm make it a metaphor? Very cool track, also dope concept to ponder & engage listeners.
After First Two Tracks, he moves the album forward with, Track 3-“What’s So Funny?” showing his elevation over the Hate, after three albums this year naturally he has grown through the process. We really enjoy the F*** You feeling to this track “Who’s laughing now?” This was definitely due for Switch on this Track.
“Lion King” ft. Zzzthesleephustler has a new-school sound which is an interesting segway on the album w/ a feature. Our favorite line is “White Widows in the Crib like a retirement home” very clever. Switch has also featured Zzzthesleepyhustler on a recent video for ‘Try Harder’
Track 5- “The List of Immediate Threats to my Well Being”(Produced by The Heretic), the name of the song immediately caught our attention. It reminded us of the name of a book you had to take in a College English Class, something along the lines of “A Series of Unfortunate Events”. This track was cool to include because it was creative and a change of pace on the album. Rhyme Scheme on point. Dope track talking about influence and instagram- Things that threaten switch’s well-being and dealing with other people’s ignorance. Checking people’s psyche and self-healing. Very Dope track to bring awareness to Switch’s Brand.
“Smoke Wit Me” is a smoking song for sure. Switch hits his pocket with this song has a good-time doing what he does best and kickin the rap straight up. Overall well-done, which is a dope transition for the second half of the album.
“Even the Deep End is Shallow” Even the Deep End- is about Mindfullness clearing your head and recognizing people and their tendencies and how impactful people can be in your life. Being non-judgemental and working through the dark-sides of yourself and others. The beat and sound is perfect for this type of message and track. Staying positive, dope message. Overall, you can hear the passion Switch brings on this song which is refreshing to hear.
“Where Am I” Track 8, the Title of the Album is next, this brings the energy back up and switch is flowing heavy metal. It has a dope boom-bap oldschool WuTang, vibe. Leading this flow into track on 9- “Heritage” Switch continues the flow, .. “sometimes it takes crisis to put things into perspective” "heritage, don’t forget where you came from” Switch snaps on both of these tracks going H.A.M w/ the bars.
“Most of Time” is awesome, it is a very visual song, Switch changes up his voice on the chorus and creates a humorous yet dark concept with the song w/ a catchy chorus. This is one of our #rarefavorites . This song is imperfect too which makes it sound original and creative. Excellent track! Switch also, released the video today 10/12/19 for “most of the time” Check it out!
